Tennessee High School Rugby

VOLUNTEERS

All league officials and organizers are volunteers. The league encourages rugby enthusiasts, parents, spectators and anyone with a positive attitude to get involved. Rugby is a team sport that teaches valuable lessons on and off the field. The development of youth is always time well spent. Below are just a few ways in which you can get involved.

COACHES - Coaching a team is fun and a great way to be directly involved. Each team will have a head coach and preferably some assistant coaches. Coaching a team can require an hour to a few hours per week during the season. Practice times may be flexible depending on the coach's schedule and facility availability. We host an USA RUGBY COACHING ACCREDATION CLINIC in January / February of each year. If you already know a team you want to join or start that's great, but if you just want to help out the league can find you a program to help coach.

REFEREES - The league is very dedicated to not only developing players but also referees. Volunteers may begin by being touch judges (sidelines officials). Each year, the conferences host a referees and touch judge clinic. For more information about referees contact Dave Haines who is head the Mid-South Referees Society.

SPONSORS & INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS - Anyone interested in sponsoring League events or donate materials and equipment to all teams should contact the commissioner. We are currently looking for sponsors for the State playoffs (see schedule), the Man-of-the-match Awards, All-State Team and other events. Individual teams may solicit sponsorship following league policies. Tax deductible donations may be possible through fundraising events.

PARENT BOOSTERS- We encourage parent participation and involvement in all aspects of team and player development. An aspect that separates rugby from other sports is the post-game social where both teams unite to form a spirit of camaraderie among the players. After the final whistle the aggression and competition is over and rugby demands good sportsmanship, which includes spending time with the opposition. During the social each team shall recognize the player of the match for each team. We would like for parent sponsored booster clubs to be formed to organize the social sponsored by the home team.

OTHER- If you would like to volunteer for a special event or project let us know. If nothing else just come out a support the players and rugby with your presence.
